Dye Plants
Dyer's Coreopsis
This plant is also known as Golden Tickseed. This plant is annual but it self seeds. The flowers are used to produce reds, oranges and yellows for fabric dyes.
Woad
Bienneal
Be careful to limit production because it could be considered an invasive if allowed to spread.
The woad plant has been used to create a blue dye since Neolithic times. There is evidence that this dye was used by the Vikings. The Celtics used woad to dye their bodies before battle. It was brought to the Americas to dye wool. Dye is extracted from the leaves not the flowers.
